A person is near sighted when the light
entering the eye in a normal fashion is
focused in front of the retina by the eye's
optical system.

Corrective measures involve placing a lens
(spectacle or contact) in front of the eye,
or having refractive surgery to cause light
to bend or diverge, forming an in-focus
image onto the retina.
The corrective lens causes
the light to diverge and focus
directly onto the retina.
