The hazy lens
causes distortion
to the flow of
light through the
eye resulting in a
blurred image on
the retina.
More information on the causes and solutions for cataracts can be found by searching
Google keyword "Cataracts", or by clicking the National Eye Institute's Cataract web page
of the National Institute of Health. More comprehensive information on this topic will be
found there.
A cataract is a loss of the clarity of the
lens of the eye over time. This results in
poor focus of light onto the retina. We
experience uncorrectable, reduced or
blurred vision.
Causes of cataracts are varied but are
most often related to the aging process.
Currently, the solution to cataracts is
removal of the lens by cataract surgery
and replacement of the cloudy, original
lens with an artificial implanted lens.
The need to remove the lens and replace it
with an artificial lens often is related to
the visual needs and desires of an
individual patient.
